Woman Wakes From 2-Year Coma And Remembers The Family Member Who Almost Killed Her

A woman had been in a coma for two years. And when she woke up she made the most shocking claim – her brother was the person who attacked her and almost killed her.

The 51-year-old West Virginia woman says that her brother attacked her and tried to kill her. She said he attacked her at her house near Cottageville, West Virginia. It was June of 2020 when Wanda Palmer was discovered at her home, barely alive. Neighbors saw that she had been struck in the head with a hatchet or similar weapon.

She was found by the police sitting on her couch. They did not find the weapon and according to a statement posted on Facebook by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department she was “attacked, hacked, and left for dead.” Aside from her injuries, the victim also had a massive head trauma. When the police arrived, Palmer was in a very bad condition.

Jackson County Sheriff Ross Mellinger said that at first, they thought she was not going to make it alive. When the police got there, they saw that she was barely breathing.

In an interview with WCHS, Jackson County Sheriff Ross Mellinger said, “I wouldn’t have wagered a nickel for her life that morning. She was in that bad of shape. And, quite honestly, she was unconscious, circling the drain medically. Massive, massive amounts of head trauma. You know, consistent with some sort of a machete or hatchet type injury.”

The police started looking into a few possible suspects right away. Even though a witness said that Palmer’s brother Daniel was on her porch at midnight the night when she was found, he was never charged. The sheriff said that there was no other proof, like phone logs or CCTV footage, to back up the claims.

The only people who could pinpoint the attacker would be Wanda herself. However, the investigators were at a loss since she had been hospitalized since the attack. Still, the authorities did not stop conducting searches and executing search warrants. They want to get to the bottom of this and determine the suspects, generate leads, and gather more information.

Sheriff Mellinger went on to say that Wanda Palmer and her brother, Daniel Palmer, 55, had a violent past. However, officials have no evidence to support that he was the one to be blamed for attacking his sister.

Wanda was in a coma. Then two years later, she woke up!

Wanda Palmer’s care home called the police department saying that she had woken up and could now talk to them. And when they did, the first thing she said was that it was her brother who hurt her and almost killed her. Even though Wander could not yet speak in full sentences, she could answer yes/no questions. Her statement was enough for the police to arrest Palmer’s brother in the case.

Mellinger said, “For her to be able to wake up and say, you know, give the name, thank God. That’s all I can say. Thank God, because she definitely deserves justice. Definitely.”

Daniel Palmer has been charged with both attempted murder and hurting someone on purpose. Even though it’s not clear what his plea was, the sheriff says he was brought to court and given a $500,000 bond.
