Walmart Employees Refuse To Make Cake For Officer

According to reports, a Wal-Mart employee refused to make a Blue Lives Matter cake that is for a police officer’s retirement party. Their reason? They felt that it was ‘racist.’
This is a Wal-Mart store at McDonough, Georgia and this story went viral when Taylor Wilkies who is a local officer shared about it on Facebook.
“So my buddy’s sister went to Walmart in McDonough, GA to have a cake made for their father’s retirement party.”
This sister is Jordan Harkins and her dad was retiring from being a police officer. She asked Walmart if they can make her a ‘thin blue line’ cake to commemorate his extensive and honorable service as a police officer for 25 years. However, Walmart refused to grant her request because of racism issues. She tries asking three people in management but they also denied her request for the same reason.
Wilkies added, “To me, this is appalling. There is nothing racist about the symbolism behind the ‘thin blue line’ yet people CHOOSE to make EVERYTHING about race. I’m so tired of it. ” He also thinks that people should educate themselves.
He said that he is just waiting for the day when the American flag is deemed ‘racist’ by these instigators that for him are just looking for attention. “It’s really getting ridiculous,” he said.
According to Todd Starnes, a conservative host, he heard about the incident and personally talked to Jordan Harkins who revealed her thoughts about it on his website. She told Starnes that she was shocked and at a loss for words. She didn’t know what to do or say at that moment and she was also trying not to lose her temper or start making a scene.
She was stunned when the store manager backed up the bakery in refusing Jordan’s order.
Jordan shared that she initially asked for a version of the police officer’s flag that has a blue line but she was turned down. So she suggested that it can be a chocolate frosted cake with a blue line, but this was also not possible according to the staff. She told Starnes, “I was disappointed. I go to Walmart all the time — at least once a week spend hundreds of dollars.
I just wanted to make my dad a cake to show how much I appreciated him. ” She added, “I was shocked really because… I didn’t know what to say, didn’t know what to do cause I didn’t expect that at all. I just expected to walk in, show them the cake and it would be done. ”
The incident received mixed reactions and the argument was intense. A lot of people are blasting the store for their ‘misstep. ’ A Walmart spokesperson named Leslee Wright told Starnes that they already apologized to the family and even offered to make the cake free of charge for them. Walmart also stated that they gave the family a gift card.
The spokesperson added that their goal is to always take care of their customers but sometimes, ‘they misstep. ’ They are just glad that they were able to connect with the police officer and his family to ask for an apology and make this right.
Walmart tried to make it right but for the Harkins family, especially to Jordan, they still can’t believe that this was even an issue.
