An old adage says, “Don’t judge a book by its cover. ” This is proven to be true when a teen stepped onto the stage to audition for America’s Got Talent, nobody expected that she would rock our worlds. Talent is something that everyone should be proud of yet this teenager seemed unsure of herself.
She is a 13-year old girl with a long brunette hair and sporting a shy smile. She prepared a mind-blowing performance that even Simon Cowell would be left speechless.
Courtney Hadwin is one of the contestants of America’s Got Talent during the June 12 audition episode. She was nervous when she went up the stage and it was too obvious that even the judges noticed it. Mel B was the first one to welcome her to the show. When she was asked, “How are you” she can’t help but respond, “a little bit nervous. ” Mel B told her that it’s okay to be nervous and it’s totally understandable.
Courtney proceeded to introduce herself but during her short exchange with the judges, she still can’t calm her nerves. “Listen, don’t be nervous. I know this is a big stage and there are lots of people here. But you are here for a reason to go for it…” Mel B assured her.
She took the center stage and prepared herself for the performance. As soon as the music started, she startled everyone when she began singing a 1930s hit “Hard to Handle” by The Black Crowes. The moment she started singing, Simon was surprised as well as the other judges. Even the host Tyra Banks who was staying backstage with Courtney’s dad was amazed by her performance.
This is definitely a song that you wouldn’t expect from a 13-year old. She rocked with the beat and showed the world what she’s got.
This teenager has a very powerful voice and her performance sent the audience standing and swaying with the music. Gone is the timid girl who can’t even lift her head up when talking to the judges. What everyone saw on stage was a confident and talented young woman.
She finished the song and all the audience including the judges gave her a standing ovation. Simon Cowell is the first judge to share what he thought about the performance and he was blown away by what Courtney did.
“You were like this shy little thing when you first came out, and then you sing and you are like a lion,” Simon said. According to Howie Mandel, “You are not from this era. You’re from a whole different era. ” And this was agreed by the other judges.
Howie then shared a story about the story of Janis Joplin and how Clive Davis first noticed her during a pop festival and this changed her life. Howie said, “I’m not Clive Davis, I’m Howie Mandel and I can’t sign you to a record deal. The only thing I can do for you young lady is give you this. ”
And that’s how Courtney Hadwin got her golden buzzer. As the golden confetti flew into the air, Courtney can’t help but be overjoyed and her tears are what we call “happy tears. ” Courtney’s dad who has been with her through this journey ran to her and gave her a big hug.
Everyone knows that this is just the beginning for Courtney Hadwin and with her talent, she has every reason to be the next America’s Got Talent winner.
