After Seeing Her Crime, This Smiling Mugshot Makes Me Feel Sick To My Stomach

It’s anyone’s guess what could have been running through Cochran’s mind

A pregnant woman who lost her baby after she was beaten to a pulp by a teenage female thug who knew of her condition has spoken of the horror she felt when she saw her attacker’s mugshot, in which she was smiling.

In the moments that led to the assault, Jessie-May Turpin, a 24 year old lady from Plymouth, Devon, had gotten threatening messages from Jasmine Cochran, a 19 year old local troublemaker, as the tension twee the two women continued to grow.

When Cochran eventually out the beating on Turpin, Turpin said that she continued to rain punches and kicks down on her, even though she knew that her victim was expecting a child.

Speaking out after Cochran- who had already admitted to various crimes, including threat of damage and violence, possession of a bladed article, assault and battery- was jailed for a year, Turpin, who was in tears after she saw the smirking picture, said, “I kept on pleading with her to stop, but she just continued the assault”
The next day, Turpin woke up with a splitting pain in her stomach. After she went to a local A&E, the doctors confirmed that she had suffered a miscarriage.

She said, “Of course, I really can’t know what caused the death of my baby, as everyone knows that there’s a lot of risk when pregnancies are in their early stages.
However, I believe that it as the assault by Jasmine. She beat the baby out of me. I was coming up to the three-month mark, and I had started to show. I was really shocked that this happened”

Turpin had just entered a new relationship with a man- who she declined to name- when she fell pregnant in the early parts of last year. Although the baby wasn’t planed, she was looking forward to giving birth nonetheless.

However, her excitement wasn’t for long, as she got a threatening message from Cochran in August 2017. Turpin was particularly confused as, although she knew Cochran from a few mutual friends, she didn’t have any relationship with her in person.

“It was completely out of the blue. She was just telling me to watch my back. I didn’t want to unnecessarily escalate the situation, so I thought it was just best if I ignored her. Plus, I wasn’t really interested in any childish spats. I had an unborn baby which I needed to think about”

However, things came to an escalated point on the 27th of August, when, while o her way from getting some food, Turpin was ambushed by Cochran.

“She came from behind and started to punch and kick me. I screamed that I was pregnant, but even that didn’t stop her. She eventually ran off, and I called the police. The collected my statement, then they dropped me at my house. I was so upset, and I was inn so much pain. Looking back, I wish I had immediately gone to the hospital, but I was in so much shock and I wasn’t thinning properly”

The next morning, however, Turpin’s worst fears were confirmed after she woke up with incredible pain in her stomach region.

She continued, “Once I cleared my head, I understood that I needed to get medical attention. I went to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, and they told me that I had lost the baby. I didn’t even find out the sex of the child. It was really heartbreaking”

Turpin proceeded to press charges, and Cochran was eventually arrested.
