Doctors Witness Historic Birth That Happens Once Every 480 Years

Nov 23rd, 2022

Historic births do not happen all the time. That is why doctors consider themselves lucky whenever they experience one with their patients. And this is exactly how the doctors felt after witnessing the historic birth of a 23-year-old woman.

A couple from the Czech Republic is thankful as they welcome their new babies. Alexandra and Antonin Kinovas have one child and they were excited when they learned that they will have an addition to their small family of three. They became more ecstatic after learning that they are going to have twins.

Both Alexandra and Antonin have a history of twins in their families. And they were happy that they will also be carrying the family’s tradition!

The Kinovas were looking forward to welcoming their new family members. They celebrated the good news and prepared themselves. They made adjustments because a lot of things need to be changed – from a family of three to a family of five is going to be a huge change for sure. But then, the doctor asked the couple to come back for a re-diagnosis.

What the family did not expect was for the doctor to tell them something that they would never have imagined. When the doctor decided to do another ultrasound, she was shocked at the new revelation. The couple is definitely expecting multiple births. But they are not having two, they will be expecting four babies.

But the surprise did not stop there. A month after the huge revelation, another shocking ultrasound discovered that they will have not four, but five babies!

Alexandra said, “When we finally found a fifth head, I started to cry.”

Quintuplets can be fraternal, identical, or a combination of both. They can be all male, all female, or also a combination of both. In 2008, a Polish woman gave birth to a set of ‘probable identical’ girls without the help of fertility drugs. The first set of all-female. quintuplets were born in the United States in 2015.

The chances for a 23-year-old to conceive five babies naturally is one in seven million. Yes she was shocked, but she is planning to breastfeed them all. And when the time came for the babies to be born, the doctors scheduled twice the amount of doctors and midwives that they would normally have in the delivery room. In fact, there were almost 40 people who were there to witness this historic birth.

Dr. Alena Mechurova said, “In our country (birth) statistics have been recorded since 1949 and there’s no mention of quintuplets. In the Czech, Republic quintuplets are born on average once every 480 years. ”

Thankfully, the head doctor of the neonatal unit confirmed that there were no complications during the delivery. After their long journey, the family welcomed four new baby boys and one baby girl. The boys were named Deniel, Michael, Alex, and Martin. The baby girl was named Tereza.

The spontaneous conception of quintuplets is extremely rare. The average estimate according to records is 1 in about 60 million births. Usually, quintuplet births are the result of assisted reproductive techniques like in-vitro fertilization or fertility-enhancing drugs.

There is no doubt that Alexandra and Antonin will have a busy life as new parents of five more babies. But for sure, they will have a big and happy family.
