Daughter’s Loving Letter To Dad With Down Syndrome Touches Millions Of Readers Worldwide

It is a known fact that most daughters have a very close relationship with their fathers. And for every daughter, their dad will always be special. But for this father and daughter, their situation is unique.
When Richie Anne Castillo from the Philippines was a young girl, she had no idea why her classmates would always tell her that her dad is different. They would always tease her because of how unique her dad is.
During her early years, she was a happy and carefree child. She has two loving parents and that’s what’s important for her. Then other kids would tell her that there was ‘something wrong’ with her dad. Despite what her peers would tell her, this did not make her change how much she adored him. Even at an early age she did not have a choice but to deal with it.
Richie’s dad has Down Syndrome that is why he is different from other dads. And because of this, Richie had to live with constant mockery from other kids. But according to her, she didn’t see her dad as different when she was young. And now that she’s all matured and grown up, she wants the world to know how proud she is of her dad and how much she loves him.
Last June 2, 2019, she posted on Facebook a letter addressed to her dad. Her dad is now 50 years old and for his 50th birthday, he wanted to share how she really feels about him.
“Dear, Dad. Today marks a very special and very miraculous moment of your life. You turn 50 today and I am so blessed that you continue to live such a long and beautiful life. Doctors are still amazed by it!” In her post, she also said that even though her dad is not using Facebook and he would not be able to read her letter for him, all she wants is for the world to know how proud she is of him. She said, “I want the whole world to know how beautiful you are inside and out.”
She also told him how she managed to face their situation. She wrote: “Dad, it took me so many years before I gathered enough courage to face everyone because not all may know the whole truth because it is quite confusing. Back in grade school, I would be picked on and bullied because they said you were different. As a kid I didn’t see you as different, I saw you as my dad.
I didn’t understand why they were making fun of me and calling me abnormal. I understood this later on and it made me a coward. ”
She added, “But you deserve more than the coward daughter that I am. You deserve love, understanding, patience and acceptance as any individual with Down Syndrome should. Here I am composing a birthday greeting to you because I’ve never done such a thing. You deserve so much more.”
She then goes on to tell him that he is the strongest and the bravest human being she knows. She shares that her dad has been through surgeries and procedures, and has spent nights at the hospital. And even through his dialysis treatments, he remained strong and with a positive personality which made everything easier for all of them.
She goes on to say how everyone adores him and how he can always put a smile and a laugh on another persons’ face.
She ends her post by writing: “I could go on and on talking about you but it would be too long. Happy 50th birthday, Daddy! Thanks for always calling me your one and only baby girl because I always will be. I am strong and brave because of you and I love you so much, dad. I think I’m big enough now to defend myself from the bullies. Lots of love, your daughter.”
Richie’s post went viral for all the right reasons. Now, it has over 76,000 shares and more than 6,000 comments.
