Dad Gets COVID-19 After Son Continues To Hang Out With Friends Without Masks

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone is advised to stay at home. And when there is a need to go out in public, social distancing is a must, and wearing masks can save lives.
When coronavirus hit Florida, John Place was one of more than 327,000 Floridians who tested positive with the virus. A lot of people got the virus from getting out in the public without protecting themselves. But this is not what happened to Place.
The 42-year-old father continued to remind his family members to wear masks when in public. However, one of them didn’t follow – his 21-year-old father. According to reports, this is how Place got the virus.
His son who has not been named publicly is believed to be the one who has brought the virus home just last month. During the pandemic, both his dad and his stepmom, Michelle Zymet, begged for him to always make it a habit to wear a mask whenever he left the house. But it seemed like all these pleas were not heard.
One time, he returned from a night out with friends without his mask on. And because of this, the entire family was diagnosed with COVID-19.
His other family members recovered, but the dads’ condition only worsened. It came to a point when he eventually needed to be hospitalized. Since late June, Place has been in the hospital. He was placed on a ventilator for a couple of weeks.
According to Michelle, John suffers from diabetes and is also overweight. And this put him in great risk of contracting the coronavirus.
During an interview with 7 News, Michelle said that she did her best to encourage all the children to practice safety measures since the number of positive cases in Florida is rising. But for Johns’ 21-year-old son, these warnings were not enough, until his entire family got the virus.
Michelle said, “I pleaded with him every time he left the house, ‘Please wear your mask, take sanitizer, make sure you’re constantly washing your hands.’ He always assured me, ‘Don’t worry, mom. I’m doing everything right, relax, chill.’ You know how these kids are, so I trusted in him.”
And while he was out with his friends, he removed his mask so he could drink and eat. And that short span of time was enough for him to contract the virus. And seven days later, he started to experience cold-like symptoms. And at another get-together with his friends, a friend of his told him that she tested positive of COVID-19. A couple of days later, their entire family tested positive as well.
Young people, these days are difficult to convince. It is challenging to make them understand the seriousness of the situation. Michelle said, “You let your guard down just one time, it’s all it takes. You come home, and you infect the entire house. ” She added, “They don’t necessarily listen.
It could be peer pressure. Maybe they think, ‘None of us are sick. We are fine. ’ They don’t understand many of us are asymptomatic and are positive carriers of the virus. ”
The family is sharing their story hoping that they can shed some light on others regarding their experiences with the virus. And as for John Place, his family recently updated that he is showing some improvement in his condition.
