Dad Enrolls In Beauty School To Learn How To Style His Daughter’s Hair

Greg Wickherts, a divorced single dad from Pueblo, Colorado only wants what’s best for his daughter, Izzy. He can surely do almost everything on his own even around the house, except for when it comes to styling his daughter’s hair.

Although difficult, some single moms are able to adjust to life almost naturally. But for many single dads, learning everything especially when it comes to rearing up a daughter is not easy. And that is exactly what Greg has been going through.

Greg struggles with her daughter’s long hair. And of course, he doesn’t want to cut it short and make her look like a boy.

When his daughter was 2 ½ years old, he knew that keeping on cutting her bangs and hair short will not work anymore. Even young girls love long hair. But Greg works in the admissions office at a local college and cutting a little girl’s face is not something that he can learn from his place of work.

During his interview with USA Today’s “All The Moms,” he said, “I didn’t want to keep cutting her bangs and be a tomboy forever. I wanted to be a more involved parent, and she wanted to be a girly-girl.”

He knew that he would not be able to learn this on his own. So he decided to do something to fix this.

During his lunch break one day, he visited the college’s cosmetology department. Yes, a man and a dad at a women’s domain was not something that most men would be up to do. But with the help of the group of students that day, he got a crash course on how to style his daughters’ hair. And sure learned a lot from this crash course!

He also decided to share on Instagram pictures of his masterpiece. After his crash course, he realized that he can do a lot of styles on Izzy’s hair. So he started to spend more of his lunch breaks with the cosmetology students. And of course, they were happy to teach him a couple of hairstyles for Izzy.

On the pictures that Greg shares on Instagram, these are not simple ponytails or braids. He definitely what the students taught him to the next level. What he can do with Izzy’s hair will surely have the hairstylist make a run for her money.

He said, “It blew my mind how easy it was to do a bun. I thought that it was something super special, like really intricate, especially the one where you don’t finish pulling the ponytail. I thought, Oh my god, that’s so pretty for something that’s so simple…I don’t think many guys know that it’s that simple.”

During his interview with Insider, he said, “It’s not about being perfect. It’s not about perfection. It’s about being present. Doing your daughter’s hair is not a competition. It’s really just to make her feel confident, make her feel proud. And really a way to help bond with your kids.”

And now, the internet has labeled Greg as “The Hair Dad.” And he is now famous on Instagram. His page now has over 22,000 followers. He is also posting videos on YouTube that now has over 14,000 subscribers. Aside from that, Greg also started a website, ‘TheHairDad.com.’ Here, he shares his story and tutorials on how to do different hairstyles.
