Chicago Mayor Calls Scooby-Doo Meme Too Offensive And Wants It Taken Down

Scooby-Doo is one of the most-loved dog characters of all time. And these days, for sure you have seen different Scooby-Doo memes. Recently, memes are a huge part of the internet. We see them almost everywhere on social media. And most of them are funny. However, some are downright rude.

Memes are a great way to make fun of a popular topic or issue. However, we are aware that many times, these meme creators can take their creators too far. And many would use them in an inappropriate way. That is why it cannot be denied that there are those who get offended by these memes.

In fact, in the past couple of months, a classic Scooby-Doo meme was deemed offensive and racist by a Chicago Mayor.

It is the Chicago Teachers Union who posted a meme of Scooby-Doo and his gang taking the mask off of a character in the show. And to everyone’s surprise, the character resembles the mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot.

This meme is supposed to represent Mayor Lightfoot dressed up as a white male police officer. The meme was posted by the Chicago Teacher’s Union on social media. They quickly have taken down the post after they received emails, texts, and other communications stating that the meme was deemed offensive and racist.

Even though the Chicago Teacher’s Union did not think that the meme was racist or offensive when they first posted it, they eventually looked deeper into it and realized that it could be misconstrued and some people may look at it this way. So they immediately removed the post and explained that they never meant for the meme to look this way.

Mayor Lightfoot did not actually see the meme. But she said that someone described it to her. And because of that, she said that she was offended and upset that educators would post such a cruel and inconsiderate meme. She believes that it was clearly racist. Lightfoot said that she is incredibly upset that educators, who are supposed to be educating children are posting such racist memes.

You see, Mayor Lightfoot was not supported by the Chicago Teacher’s Union during the last election. Even so, she is doing what she thinks is best to help the city and the community.

After knowing how the meme affected not only the viewers but most especially the mayor, the Chicago Teacher’s Union recognizes their mistake. However, they still do not support Lightfoot and her approaches to business. They even criticized her for defunding the Chicago Police Department. In fact, this is just one of the main reasons that the Chicago Teacher’s Union posted this meme.

And according to them, they view the Mayor’s actions as not always doing what is best for the children. They are upset that their mayor is not doing enough to help the community and instead, is focusing her attention on the meme and how it offended her.

It was clearly a mistake on their part, and the huge attention that it is getting is one of the main reasons why it was taken down so quickly. But according to them, people should not focus their attention on this mistake. There are definitely more important issues in Chicago that need to be taken care of.
