If you really want to help shelter animals, there is always something that you can do. Even age should not stop you from extending help to these animals who need all the love and care even from strangers. Anyone can reach out to their local organizations and find something that they can do to help.
Most local rescue organizations would love to accept any assistance that you can offer. You can walk the dogs, foster them, clean their kennels, assist in adoption events, and a lot more. In fact, a British woman has shown everyone that anyone can help these animals in their own unique way.
This 89-year-old lady has found a way to help animals in need. She knits coats and blankets to keep them warm!
This is Maisie Green. She loves knitting and it has been her hobby ever since she was young. She wanted to help shelter dogs through her talent. So she decided to know hundreds of dog coats and blankets. She has been doing this for years. Everything that she finished is donated to the rescue dogs of the Dogs Trust Basildon in the United Kingdom.
Dogtrust is one of the largest dog rescue organizations in the United Kingdom. They have provided care for more than 16,000 strays and abandoned dogs every year. The organization also offer many ways for any volunteer to get involved.
Dogtrust shared a photo of Maisie on their Instagram account. The woman was standing in front of a batch of knitted coats and blankets that she has done for the shelter dogs. The picture was captioned:

During her interview with Dogs Trust Basildon, Maisie explained that she loves knitting and she also loves dogs. “So this combines both wonderfully,” she said. She also added that it takes her three days to knit a blanket and just one day for her to finish a doggy coat.
She spends most of her time knitting for the benefit of these dogs who are still waiting for their chance to have a new family. Maisie works in batches. Her family members also help drive her to the shelter three times a year to drop off her creations. According to her, knitting has provided her with a purpose in life.
She said, “It keeps me busy and often I like to knit whilst watching television. I’m delighted to be helping the four-legged residents at the center in some way.”
As the Dogs Trust Basildon noted, their beloved volunteer has provided them a total of 450 items. The dogs at the shelter surely loved their knitted gifts from Maisie, especially the pups who look so adorable in them.
For Maisie, age is just a number. This did not stop her from giving back by helping these shelter animals. The dogs and the organization staff are very happy about the efforts of Maisie Green. They are hoping that others will also be as kind as her in their own little ways.
